Being fit and crushing PRs is all about consistency. A part of that consistency comes from developing healthy habits such as waking up early to hit the gym or tracking your macros for every meal. Set Big Goals

Goals and PRs are common in the fitness world. Too often, however, these goals aren’t big enough. We all crave the satisfaction of reaching our short-term goals, but it’s the long-term, astronomical goals that keep us grinding for the long run. Maybe your big goal is completing a marathon in your running shoes or maybe it’s adding a whole 100 pounds to your deadlift max. Although big goals can seem lofty and unachievable when first writing them down, six months down the road, you might be a lot closer than you’d think.

Focus on Your Mental Fitness

Your mental fitness is just as important as your physical fitness. From practicing gratefulness to educating yourself about the world around you, your brain needs a workout too. Everyone is different, but keeping tabs on your mental wellness is a great habit to have that will only prove more valuable as you age. We all have our routines, but some of us all too often become trapped by the need for certain equipment or specific environments. If the gym is closed, we decide that we can’t exercise since we need access to the lifting platform inside. Or, if it’s raining, we take an unplanned rest day since running our usual path is out of the equation. While it’s never a bad idea to take a rest day when you need it, in the long run regularly putting your workouts aside due to factors you can’t control can hurt your progress. Instead, vow to become more flexible, and allow yourself to change things up rather than locking yourself to a specific routine, piece of equipment or environment.

Listen to Your Body

Making progress is all about pushing our bodies to the limit. There is a limit to that limit, however. Our bodies are pretty good at telling us when we’ve gone past said limit, and it’s our job to listen. Fitness is a marathon, not a race, so if your hamstring feels a little funny after that last squat rep, rack the barbell and give it some rest. This way, you’ll keep your body sharp and healthy, and you have a chance to focus on other movements or routines while you recover.

Finally, giving back to the community is one of the most gratifying habits to have. The fitness world is large, and we could all use a helping hand from time to time.
