4 Ways to Make Cardio Day More Fun
Many of us have a love-hate relationship with cardio. We know it’s important and provides a variety of health benefits, but that doesn’t mean we love or enjoy elevating our heart rate while stomping away on the treadmill. Many weightlifters would rather focus on the art of getting big or strategically slimmer and less on boring, grueling cardio. If cardio day has become a drag, but it’s too important to give up, try any of these four tips.

Pick a Cardio Exercise
You Actually Like
Cardio doesn’t need to feel like a punishment. If your idea of a successful
cardio day is boredom and unbearable discomfort, it’s no wonder you don’t look
forward to it. A cardio-testing can be both effective and fun at the same time
and there isn’t one perfect cardio exercise. If you just want to burn calories,
break a sweat and test your limits, focus on a routine you actually enjoy. For
some, that might mean jumping in the pool and lap swimming; for others, it
could be lacing up their basketball shoes
and running through drills. Find an exercise you actually enjoy and you’ll look
forward to cardio day again.
Get a Buddy Involved 
Even the most dedicated people will have their days where they feel motivated
to do anything but the workout. A workout partner, whether in person or
virtually, can help hold you accountable and stick to the program. Some of us
need a little bit of competition to help us push past our perceived limits and
a cardio buddy can provide that. If the solitary aspect of cardio has been
bumming you out, see if anyone in your social circle would like to team up. 
Try Incorporating
Cardio Into Your Weightlifting Routine
You might not even need a dedicated cardio day to hit your goals. Many lifters
will keep their heart rate elevated between sets by jump roping, stair-stepping
or hopping on an elliptical or bike for a minute or two. By breaking up your
cardio throughout the workout, you can keep your heart pumping and accelerate
calorie burn without having to dedicate a whole workout to it. If you’re
training for a marathon or other athletic event, you’ll likely still need
dedicated cardio days, but adding cardio into your lifting circuit can provide
benefits and advantages that can stretch into the main cardio workout.
Find a Way to Reward
Yourself for Doing Cardio
Do you have a personal incentive for doing cardio or is just getting it over
with reward enough? Cardio doesn’t have to be boring, unpleasant or punishing
and if you can find a way to make it fun or at least rewarding, do it. It could
be listening to a dedicated playlist full of your favorite high paced songs.
Or, you could wear your favorite pair of track pants to
capture that “look good, feel good” energy you need to crush your HIIT workout.
Whatever it takes, find a way to make cardio day rewarding and it just might be
what you need to start looking forward to it.
